The Righteousness of God in Christ, husband, father, son, friend, president of Exodus International
Alan Chambers is one of the nation’s leading speakers on gender issues and is the president of the largest evangelical organization dealing with this topic in the world today — Exodus International. His personal story as a gay teen and young adult who overcame unwanted homosexuality has inspired audiences around the world and he offers unique insight into how this issue personally affects individuals and the broader culture.
Since its inception in 1976, Exodus has grown to include more than 130 professional mental health and church-based member agencies that offer help and hope to those affected by unwanted homosexuality. Under Alan’s leadership, Exodus has expanded this vision. By partnering with other likeminded, pro-family organizations, adding an emphasis on public policy initiatives that affect our constituents and elevating visibility through the press, Exodus now reaches a broader audience with a message of hope and change. In addition, the ministry now includes education and training programs for pastors, church leaders and youth and college workers desiring to approach the subject of homosexuality with God’s uncompromising truth and bold love.
Prior to coming to Exodus in 2001, Alan served on the pastoral team at Calvary Assembly of God, one of the largest churches in Orlando, Florida. In 2005, Charisma magazine named him among the top Christian leaders advancing the future of the American church.
Alan has addressed public forums around the world and across the United States and has debated at the University of California at Berkeley, Pepperdine University and Reformed Theological Seminary. He is a regular guest speaker for Focus on the Family’s Love Won Out Conference — an international conference addressing the roots and causes of homosexuality. He serves on the Board of Directors for Exodus Global Alliance — an international coalition of Exodus ministries that include Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and other parts of the world.
An advocate for public policies that protect traditional marriage and family, Alan has testified before the Massachusetts Judiciary Committee on same-sex marriage and lobbies at the federal and state level on other related issues.
Alan is a frequent guest on media outlets across the country and has been interviewed by Time magazine, ABC’s 20/20, Good Morning America, Nightline, and MSNBC’s Buchanan & Press. His writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, The Orlando Sentinel and The Washington Times and he is the author of God’s Grace & The Homosexual Next Door: Reaching the Heart of the Gay Men & Women in Your World.
He and his wife, Leslie, make their home in Orlando, Florida and are the proud parents of a son and daughter.
